Who is the artist?

A Blog Post by Ivan Muller

"A nice picture for sure. But this kind of shot would, in several photoclubs I was and am a member of, almost everytime get the response: who is the artist here, the 'painter' or the photographer?"

This is the response I got after posting a photo in the Leica Camera Forum, this week.

I like to think of my photography as 'documentary' in nature. I see things and I record them. By that definition the image would be valid. I also sometimes copy /photograph paintings of artists. I would never consider it 'my' work.

Reclining Beauties

A Blog Post by Ivan Muller

I am always looking for areas to photograph that has easy access, is relatively safe and that takes me a bit out of my comfort zone.

Enter, Voortrekker street in Pretoria....

It is only about 20 min drive from my house and has a mixture of businesses and residential. Its on the other side of town so the people look and dress differently. Because of the small residential part and also the number of businesses its also quite safe.

Ladies & Gents

A Blog Post by Ivan Muller

I drove past this petrol garage on one of my photographic day trips last month. The garage was near Moloto on the R573. I stopped for a rest, looked around and saw this scene. It almost looked like a still life to me with the carefully arranged elements of tyres, cupboards, stacked wood, and the ladies and gents signs that we all know.....
